BAYVIEW CEMETERY, ANTRIM CO., MI.
Bayview Cemetery is located in the township of Central Lake, which is in the northern tier of Antrim County, Michigan. The cemetery is approximately 4.5 miles north of the town of Central Lake as you drive on Hwy M-88 towards Eastport, Mi., and Grand Traverse Bay which is part of the Great Lake Michigan. Bayview sits atop of one of the series of hills which were carved by the last era of glaciers that retreated from the region. Over one hundred years ago, it was most certainly a "view of the Bay"....when the earlier settlers had cleared the land of timber. And what more of a splendid place that 'high on hill' would the beloved members of family be laid to rest.
From my own search of family's and past, I soon discovered that my own father was born on a farm one hill-top away from where he showed me the cemetery where his ggrand-mother was buried. Since that discovery last year, I have been asked by many people from different states; some new-found family and others with family ties to this area....All with the interest of whether they have family resting there in Bayview.
This is a very small cemetery and many of the graves are un-marked. One, only has a small hand-hewned piece of cedar, which may have been inscribed. Many of the headstones have been heavily worn away due to the elements of time and weather. Attempts have been made to do paper-tracing and sadly even those were unsuccessful. Where a date has been left open it is because it cannot be determined and there also are some names that are difficult to read and it will be noted as such.
Here are the Headstones and Inscriptions I have been able to compile for BAYVIEW.
Please feel free to use this data for "non-commercial" only.
