Note from a Kukuk descendant about this cemetery: "I have visited the Macomb County site many times and have found many things. The most interesting is the transcription of the Kukuk cemetery in what was Sterling Twp, now Sterling Heights. It is probably more popularly known as the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery (church is at Canal and Hayes Roads). My great grandfather, Carl Kukuk, gave the cemetery property to the church on May 10, 1887 (it was originally part of our farm). My paternal great grandparents and paternal grandparents are buried there, along with some uncles, cousins etc. The earliest death recorded there is Carl's daughter Helene, who died in 1882, as an infant, and I assume was buried there before the cemetery was officially deeded. The cemetery is currently in great disrepair. I'm trying to work with the church (of which Carl was one of the founding fathers) to try to clean up the area and take care of it. Notes from a Beutel descendant, about this cemetery: My great grandfather is buried in the Kukuk Cemetery. His name was John [Johan] Beutel Oct. 22nd 1844-Aug. 15, 1917, as you have listed. Next to him is an unmarked grave which I believe is for his wife, Caroline J. K. Beutel 12/24/1847: 2/2/1929. I have just ordered a stone to mark her grave. Next to them are two unmarked children's graves. I believe that these are Augusta, born 8/26/1867 and Carl 10/2/1877.

In the Beutel family plot are the graves of one daughter and her husband; Martha Erdman 1898-1939 and Edward Erdman 1887 1967 John Beutel served in the 22nd Michigan Infantry, Co. G from 1862-1865. He was wounded at Chickamauga. You may wish to add some or all of this information to your Kukuk Cemetery site. Best regards, Carl G. Becker,D.O. cbecdoc@comcast.netl
